Voice Server
Merging the power and flexibility of the Asterisk Open Source telephony engine with the rugged dependability of a specially configured industrial strength hardware platform, The VS-1™ Asterisk Voice Server is a highly functional, rock solid IP-PBX solution. It is a great foundation for small to medium-sized businesses that are ready to make the move to standards-based Open Source telephony.
The VoIP Connection™ Asterisk Voice Server combines the functionality of a PBX, SIP proxy, Voice Mail server, and more. Key features include unified messaging, enterprise level call control, call groups and queues, auto-attendant, overhead and extension paging, extension directory, music-on-hold, and conference bridging. An intuitive web-based interface, exclusive to The VoIP Connection™, provides a convenient and straight-forward mechanism for the management and administration of the system - including automated configuration and provisioning for most popular VoIP telephones.
Hardware Features

The VS-1™ Asterisk Voice Server is not simply a consumer grade PC or server with an Asterisk installation. It is a complete system that is engineered around the unique capabilities of Asterisk and the Eden® processor from VIA® and it is designed from the ground up to provide the mission-critical stability expected from telecom equipment.
To absolutely maximize reliability, our engineers worked to develop a system that eliminates the fans, disk drives and other moving parts that are the typical failure modes for PC based systems. Because all system software and configuration data are stored in compact flash memory, the VS-1™ Asterisk Voice Server is fast, silent, reliable and virtually immune to virus infestation. Complete web-based administration saves even more space and money since there's no need for a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
The VS-1™ Asterisk Voice Server is optimized for use with VoIP telephone services and telephones, but our extensive experience with the technology has led us to recognize the value of interoperability with legacy phone systems. To provide this flexibility, The VS-1™ Asterisk Voice Server supports the option to include a Digium® analog or digital telephony interface card. Depending on the configuration, this interface can support digital T1 connections, analog PSTN phone lines, fax machines, alarm systems, and other legacy telephony devices.
For efficiency and convenience, the VS-1 is configured to e-mail Voice messages to users. Up to 400 hours of Voice Mail can be stored on board (20 hours is standard). For installations requiring extended storage, an optional external device can be added with capacity for over 25,000 hours of Voice Mail.
Software Features
System software for the VS-1™ Asterisk Voice Server starts with a streamlined version of the rock solid Red Hat Fedora™ Linux operation system. Stable and secure, this operating system provides the optimal foundation for a mission critical system. To provide peak performance, all unnecessary components and services are removed or disabled. Next, we install our certified distribution of the Asterisk Open Source PBX. Asterisk offers both classical PBX functionality and advanced features, and interoperates with traditional standards-based telephony systems and Voice over IP systems. Asterisk offers the features one would expect of a large proprietary PBX system such as Auto-attendant, IVR menus, Voicemail, Conference Bridging, Call Queuing, and Call Detail Records.
The VS-1™ is pre-configured for quick and easy connection to most popular SIP or IAX VoIP services including Vonage Business Plus®. In addition, The VoIP Connection™ has added an exclusive and proprietary web-based interface for administration and management of the system which eliminates much of the complexity often associated with Linux and Asterisk. Each user also has their own personal web portal for setting preferences, retrieving Voice Mail and reviewing call activity. Also simplifying system setup and maintenance is another VoIP Connection™ exclusive, our integrated device configuration tool. Leveraging the auto-provisioning function supported by many popular VoIP telephones, the VS-1™ automatically generates and loads the appropriate configuration into the device when it is added to the network.
Installation
This handsome unit is about the size of a phone book and looks great sitting on a desk or shelf, but it also includes brackets for wall mounting in an equipment closet.
